The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) is improving pedestrian safety by installing Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) at over 100 additional traffic signals citywide. LPIs give pedestrians a 3–7 second head start in crosswalks, increasing visibility and reducing conflicts with turning vehicles.
The City of Atlanta has implemented LPIs at approximately 300 traffic signals, including more than 100 new intersections this year—bringing ATLDOT closer to its year-end goal of installing LPIs at over 200 additional locations.
