In 2016, Atlanta citizens approved a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) generating an additional $260 million to fund significant and expansive transportation projects citywide.
These dollars allow the city to make improvements to Atlanta’s infrastructure without raising property tax.
Renew Atlanta-TSPLOST 1.0 programs, launched in 2015 and 2016, were created to address the $1B+ infrastructure backlog facing the city. Though the programs have made much progress, they faced significant challenges to complete the full initial program scope. Simply put- the cost to deliver the full scope of the initial program considerably exceeded the funding available from Renew Atlanta-TSPLOST 1.0 revenues. With significant stakeholder input, the City worked diligently and transparently to prioritize and re-baseline the initial program lists to deliver the greatest impact to Atlanta’s above-ground infrastructure and transportation network with the available funds.
