The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) are excited to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Midtown Bike Lane Barrier Mural Project. This event will highlight how the project not only enhances safety for cyclists but also features vibrant public art that enriches Atlanta’s cityscape.

The Midtown Bike Lane Barrier Mural Project is a groundbreaking initiative designed to promote safety, sustainability, and community connection. As part of Atlanta's Vision Zero strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries, this project introduces innovative street design improvements to protect cyclists and micro-mobility users.

This project includes the installation of 300 low-profile concrete bike lane barriers along 10th Street NE, spanning from Piedmont Avenue NE to Monroe Drive NE. These barriers address previous safety challenges on Atlanta’s first cycle track, installed in 2013, by offering crucial protection for vulnerable users, including bicyclists and micro-mobility users. The integration of locally inspired artwork transforms the corridor, with this vibrant addition enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the street scape and creating a more inviting and dynamic environment for all.
