The City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) and Central Atlanta Progress/Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (CAP/ADID) are partnering together to transform Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (MLK) in Downtown Atlanta.
CAP/ADID will be installing a two-way protected cycle track (bike lanes) on the south side of MLK between Forsyth Street and Capitol Avenue to improve safety for vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. Parking along the southside curb between Forsyth Street and Central Avenue will be removed to accommodate the cycle track. ATLDOT’s resurfacing of MLK between Forsyth Street and Capitol Square will follow. For more information and the full plans, visit AtlantaDowntown.com/MLK bike lane.
Roadway work is expected to begin on Monday, March 20, 2023, and is anticipated to take approximately two months (weather permitting). Work will take place from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on weekdays. During construction hours, the two southbound lanes of MLK Jr. Drive furthest left between Forsyth Street and Capitol Avenue. Please be sure to move your vehicle from any posted “No Parking” areas prior to construction activities to avoid towing (Georgia Code 44-1-13).
