Response, Recovery, and Rebuild Updates

Effective immediately, Cheshire Bridge Road from Woodland Avenue NE to Faulkner Road NE is closed to all traffic until further notice. The bridge is closed for the safety of the traveling public due to damage caused by a fire effective Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

May 5, 2022

The City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) has contracted with C. W. Matthews for the design and rebuild of the Cheshire Bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek. This comes after accepting, reviewing, and evaluating all bids submitted in January 2022.

After accepting, reviewing, and evaluating all bids submitted, the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) has forwarded a contractor recommendation for the design and rebuild of the Cheshire Bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek. Bids from prospective contractors were due on February 1, 2022.

With demolition complete, the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) is currently accepting bids for the design and rebuild of the Cheshire Bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek. Bids from prospective contractors are due on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The Atlanta Department of Transportation has completed the response and recovery efforts associated with the fire on August 4, 2021, which severely compromised the efficacy of Cheshire Bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek. On Wednesday, August 11, Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) Commissioner Josh Rowan provided an update on ATLDOT’s Response and Recovery efforts related to the fire near the northeast corner of Cheshire Bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek on August 4-5, 2021.
