Like many municipalities, the demand for safe spaces for vulnerable modes has increased significantly over the years, which requires cities to provide innovative solutions for what sometimes can be costly infrastructure improvements. As the urban landscape requires more connectivity, walkability, and bikability, our streets must become shared spaces.

The Boulevard Granada project is a testament to how vehicle dominated streets can be converted to shared spaces through small, incremental, low-cost design changes. Located in the Adams Park community of southwest, a beautiful tree-lined residential street that experienced significant pass through traffic. Its wide lanes encourage vehicle speeding and lack of pedestrian infrastructure created unsafe conditions for residents, whom are predominantly senior age, and the school-age children who walk between Cascade Elementary and the Cascade Business District.
